Ethical Fashion For Everyone

Meet Monozygotics and support their upcoming work

We truly believe in fashion's ability to be a unifier, not a divider, and a creator not a destroyer. Monozygotics is a grassroots approach to changing this permanently!

Fashion brand, Monozygotics, has been on our radar for the past 6 months ever since they partnered with us for The Sassy Show's 2nd Birthday party. As a rebellious, daringly fashionable brand, we fell in love with this label and its two co-founders - Daisy and her twin sister Scarlet.

As anyone running their own business will know, it takes time, physical labour, and money to keep afloat and prosper. This is why we're spotlighting this fabulous fashion house and spreading the word about their current fundraising campaign. Read on to hear more from Daisy of 'Monozygotics' about the vision behind their business and how you can support them grow.

'Monozygotics' makes clothing that is accessible, adaptable, affordable, sustainable, gender-neutral, size-inclusive, disability-inclusive, transparently made

"There are so many reasons why we started this brand: to make clothing that is accessible, adaptable, affordable, sustainable, gender-neutral, size-inclusive, disability-inclusive, transparently made... basically to provide ethical options for everyone that are also high fashion and don't sacrifice a sense of individuality and freedom of expression. Not to mention providing a safe, educational and accessible space online to teach future generations about D&I, sustainability and self-expression with none of the name-dropping, exclusionary, elitist rubbish fashion is known for.

We started the brand with very little, turning one of the rooms in our flat into a sewing studio filled with second-hand machinery. I started sleeping in the other, smaller room and using it to store most of our stuff, and Scarlet slept up a ladder in the 3-foot-high crawl space above the room. It's something we're passionate about so we have been willing to sacrifice for it and finally our hard work seems to be paying off..

This little, ethical, queer & disabled-owned brand actually has a chance - and that's where we need your help!

We are finally at a point of potential breakthrough - this little, ethical, queer & disabled-owned brand actually has a chance - and that's where we need your help! With the chance to show our newest collection during London fashion week (which explores the colonisation of witchcraft, the oppression of the 'other', and a feminist take on the topic, etc. - because we always explore important topics with our clothing!) we have a beautiful creative team of young artists from all kinds of backgrounds waiting in the wings to make some amazing work that will help us all get into the spotlight and push ethical, meaningful fashion/art into the light too.

However, we need to pay these people for their time, and currently, we cannot do that. Yes, loads of brands get away with borrowing skills and models for free in exchange for 'exposure' and 'experience' - but they don't pay the bills! As an ethical brand, we need to pay people for their time, especially if they are from underrepresented or marginalized groups who only ever get tokenised and exploited anyway!

As an ethical brand, we need to pay people for their time, especially if they are from underrepresented or marginalized groups who only ever get tokenised and exploited anyway!

We are hoping to raise £4,000 to cover a location, models, HMUA teams, a photographer and a press event. Of this money raised, I'd like to point out that myself and Scarlet will not be getting a penny of it. Instead, it will all go into paying the creatives we work with and opening the door for them to get paid work in a famously exploitative and discriminatory industry, and showcasing our collective work to the world.

We will use what remains from this investment to develop our designs and become more accessible, to be available in more sizes and adaptations, to offer more, and better resources for our community - the list goes on. Since we do everything ourselves at this point the money can stretch a long way!

With this kind of launch not only will our brand actually be able to become profitable, and not only will a group of young creatives get paid, but we'll get the platform to make a bigger change to the industry, through spreading knowledge, resources, and training.

We have big plans to become an industry hub and resource for all things ethical in fashion - this is the very first step!

Thank you so much for reading, we appreciate every single donation - every pound helps.

We truly believe in fashion's ability to be a unifier, not a divider, and a creator not a destroyer - we are so disappointed in the current state of the fashion industry, and we're sure you are too - Monozygotics is a grassroots approach to changing this permanently!

We'll be doing all of this for a big launch in September (during LFW) so ideally any donations are needed by the end of July to get it done!

If you have any questions about what we do as a brand or want to ask us anything before donating just drop us an email or DM!
